Former Warhol muse Jane Holzer’s Worth Avenue expansion project moves forward

Plans to add second- and third-story space to a Worth Avenue building owned by a former Andy Warhol muse are heading back to the Town Council.

In three mixed votes, a majority of the Palm Beach Architectural Commission, with Chair Jeffrey Smith absent, voted Jan. 24 to return the project that would add two stories to 247-251 Worth Ave. to the council for final review. The building is owned by Jane “Baby Jane” Holzer, a longtime Palm Beach resident and businessperson who appeared in many of pop artist Warhol’s works.

While the council will be able to begin reviewing the project, commissioners asked the project applicants to return to their Feb. 28 meeting for more review of a courtyard staircase; the trim around the windows facing Worth Avenue; the distance of the center of the building from the road; and the thickness of the eyebrows over the second- and third-floor windows.

This was the second time the project came before the commission, which reviewed the proposal in December and asked the town staff for more information about Palm Beach’s Worth Avenue Design Guidelines before issuing a decision. The guidelines are meant to steer the design and evaluation of proposed modifications of buildings on the iconic street.
