Undercover Detective Foils Scam Attempt at West Palm Beach Restaurant

A sophisticated scam targeting Avocado Grill in West Palm Beach was thwarted by an undercover detective posing as the restaurant owner. The operation unveiled a fraudulent attempt to extract money for a supposed dental injury incurred at the restaurant, as detailed by WPBF 25 News in an exclusive interview.

In September, a group of women from Hollywood, Florida, dining at Avocado Grill, initiated the scam by claiming that a rock in a salad had injured one of their teeth.

Following the incident, the restaurant staff, under the owner’s guidance, offered medical attention and took down their personal information for follow-up.

The alleged victim, initially identified as “Elaine Sanders,” was later discovered to be Ann Miller.

Accompanying her was “Stacy Wells,” whose real identity is Sheila Miller. The women submitted an invoice from Coral Dental Care in Coral Gables, claiming dental treatment costs of $8,775.00 for Elaine.

Suspicious of the invoice’s authenticity, the restaurant owner contacted the West Palm Beach Police, leading to an investigation that confirmed the invoice was fabricated and part of an insurance scam.
