West Palm man, 57, killed in two-car Delray crash

DELRAY BEACH — A 57-year-old West Palm Beach man was killed early Sunday in a two-car collision in western Delray Beach, police said.

German Robin Barreto was heading north on Military Trail approaching Las Verdes Drive, which is north of Linton Boulevard, at about 3:39 a.m. in his 2013 Toyota Rav4, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said. Coming up behind him on Military Trail was a 2013 Mercedes C250 driven by a 21-year-old West Palm Beach man.

The Mercedes failed to steer away from the Toyota, deputies said, and the car struck the left rear of the Rav4, causing it to “violently” rotate and travel off the road and into a standing telephone pole at Las Verdes Drive.

The Mercedes kept going north, then veered off the road, crossing over the curb and sidewalk and coming to rest in a grassy area, deputies said.

Robin Barreto was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The 21-year-old man sustained minor injuries. The sheriff’s office report about that driver indicated that alcohol or drugs were involved.
