Police mourn West Palm Beach officer Jeremy Boykins, who died after illness during tryout

WEST PALM BEACH — A West Palm Beach police officer has died after falling ill during a field tryout, department officials announced Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Officer Jeremy Boykins, 29, died Tuesday morning after undergoing surgery Monday night at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Boykins, a two-year veteran of the department, had been participating in a tryout for the Emergency Field Force team Monday afternoon when he became ill, according a statement released by the department.

Emergency Field Force teams respond to situations that require special weapons or tactics.

“Jeremy was not only a dedicated officer but also a beloved friend and colleague to many of us,” Chief Frank Adderley said in a prepared statement. “During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Jeremy’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.”
