It’s hot: Heat advisory for PB County today predicts indexes of 107 to 113

The National Weather Service has declared a heat advisory for Palm Beach County until 6 p.m. today.

The advisory, which covers the coast, inland and metro areas of the county as well as Miami-Dade, Broward and Collier counties, will see peak heat indices, or “feels like” temperatures, today of 107 to 113 degrees. The high temperature in West Palm Beach is expected to be 92 degrees under mostly sunny skies, with showers and thunderstorms likely after 3 p.m.

Other counties affected are Monroe, Hendry and Glades.

The Weather Service advises residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room and out of the sun, and do welfare checks on relatives and neighbors.

If you must go outside, take extra precautions. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

The seven-day forecast for the area calls for daytime temperatures in the upper 80s and nighttime lows of about 78 as drier air settles in.
