Hurricane Helene: West Palm cancels Clematis by Night as city braces for winds, rain

WEST PALM BEACH — The threat of winds and rain from Hurricane Helene has led the City of West Palm Beach to cancel its Clematis by Night street party for Thursday, Sept. 26.

The storm is expected to make landfall in the Big Bend area west of Gainesville sometime Thursday, possibly as a major hurricane. Helene’s outer bands are expected to touch Palm Beach County. Schools have decided to close for the day because of the chances of winds at 40 mph or stronger.

The city said Clematis by Night will return the following Thursday, Oct. 3. An Oktoberfest celebration is planned, according to the West Palm Beach website.
