Boca Raton breaks ground on the city’s first fully accessible playground at Patch Reef Park

Before picking up a ceremonious shovel, Jordan Ogman, 9, made sure to shake hands with the city officials also gearing up to pose in front of shovels and a pile of dirt, a symbol of the change ahead.

Jordan recently gathered with his parents, David and Stacey Ogman, and members of the Boca Raton City Council and Greater Boca Raton Beach and Parks District at Pirates Cove Playground in the city’s Patch Reef Park to celebrate: Sometime in the summer of 2025, Pirates Cove will be remodeled into a fully accessible, ADA-compliant playground for children of all abilities.

“This is going to be an incredible playground for Boca,” David Ogman said during the groundbreaking ceremony. “I think it’s really going to put Boca on the map for being accessible to kids with disabilities, kids with autism, kids with all types of special needs. And I think this is really going to be a destination for kids.”

Jordan was born with a rare fatal genetic condition called TECPR2, named after the affected gene. The condition limits his cognitive and physical development, such as walking and speech.
