Public schools must end DEI programs
It’s time for the Palm Beach County School Board to dismantle DEI practices. The message from the U.S. Department of Education is clear: School boards have 14 days to comply with new requirements or risk losing their federal funds. On Feb. 14, 2025, the department sent a “Dear Colleague” letter to all 50 states, including Palm Beach County schools, requiring immediate action or risk losing their federal funding of upwards of $327 million.
The department intends to assess compliance with applicable statutes and regulations, emphasizing that anti-discrimination requirements exist for receiving federal funding. Educational institutions are advised to ensure their policies align with civil rights law, cease efforts to circumvent prohibitions on race and stop relying on third-party contractors that might facilitate illegal practices. Non-compliance could lead to significant financial repercussions.
