Man sentenced to five years after being shot by police on school grounds in Riviera Beach

RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man with an extensive criminal history was sentenced to five years after being shot by a police officer on school grounds.

The Riviera Beach Police Department (RBPD) said Delroy Clive Thomas, 30, has been sentenced to five years in state prison after pleading guilty to charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer with violence, and trespassing on school grounds.

The charges are related to an incident at Suncoast Community High School on April 22, 2024, where Thomas unlawfully entered the school’s parking lot, according to police. When approached by a Riviera Beach police officer, Thomas became combative and made physical contact with the officer. In response, RBPD said the officer discharged their firearm, hitting Thomas twice.

In addition to his sentence, the RBPD said Thomas — who was sentenced as a “prison release re-offender” — was also ordered to pay a $200 cost of prosecution…
