Condo residents should allow beach access for sand project sans payment | Editorial

The phrase “not in my backyard” has unfortunately acquired an added twist in Palm Beach: Unless you pay me for the privilege.

That’s essentially the message that some South End condominium residents and their representatives had for town officials — and their neighbors across town — when asked to provide beach access for the town’s dune replenishment efforts.

During a May 13 discussion on the project to protect the coastline from south of the Lake Worth Beach Pier to La Bonne Vie Condominium, condo representatives told the Town Council that to persuade residents to host the dune replenishment effort, the town needs to compensate them for the disruption and noise the project would cause…
