FORECAST: Hot and humid; Turning stormy by mid-week.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — A massive heat ridge has gripped the eastern half of the United States bringing record breaking heat to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast. Heat alerts stretch from Maine to Georgia, west to the Mississippi River. Areas as far north as Plattsburgh, New York (just 20 miles from the US/Canadian border) reached 100 degrees. Because of the placement of this ridge, our weather will predominantly be coming from the east during the course of the week. This includes an upper level low pressure system that could bring strong to severe thunderstorms to the area on Wednesday.

In the meantime, expect a fairly quiet day Tuesday with just a spotty, passing shower or thunderstorm around. Most areas should remain dry with temperatures right around 90 degrees and heat indices in the upper 90s to right around 100. Boaters can expect a somewhat bumpy ride at times with seas of 2 to 3 feet and 15-25 mph winds.
