Police say shooting that injured 3 happened during ‘Peace in the Hood’ event

A shooting on Saturday at Sara Sims Park happened during a “Peace in the Hood” event that had nearly 500 attendees, Boynton Beach police say.

Three people sustained injuries from gunshot wounds, and are expected to survive.

Police say that just after 8 p.m. Saturday, “multiple rival gang members” started shooting at each other while attendees of the event were caught in the crossfire. They say “numerous children” were at the event.

Boynton Beach police noted this was an “unsanctioned” event. They said on Monday that the organizer of the “Peace in the Hood” event had submitted a special events application to the city on June 17, for an event titled “Stop Violence Awareness” on July 5. The Boynton Beach Recreation and Parks Department denied the event permit on June 24, and notified the organizer via email…
