PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — Two workdays into the full closure of Northlake Boulevard at the CSX railroad crossing, some drivers say the detour hasn’t been as painful as anticipated — though commutes remain significantly longer.
The closure began at 8 p.m. Friday, August 1, and is expected to remain in place 24/7 through Sunday, August 10, while CSX crews fully rebuild the tracks, roadbed and signaling system at one of the county’s busiest intersections west of the Beeline Highway.
More than 70,000 drivers typically use Northlake Boulevard daily, connecting communities like Ibis, Avenir and The Acreage to the Beeline and beyond. With the main route cut off, drivers have been forced onto long, winding detours that can stretch more than 30 miles — and in some cases, double or triple normal commute times.
But for some, the transition has gone more smoothly than expected…
