Officials target illegal moorings to protect seagrass meadows in Lake Worth Lagoon

PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The Town of Palm Beach says it’s targeting illegal mooring buoys and anchored devices to clean up Lake Worth Lagoon.

According to Palm Beach officials, the decision supports safer navigation and removes a threat to vital seagrass meadows, which are critical to the marine life ecosystem.

Officials say floating and anchored structures can sink, pollute, and damage sensitive habitats, and the program is taking action to fix that.
