Palm Beach Police: Man jumped fence next to Palm Beach Public, startling teacher

A man jumped over a fence and onto a recreation field next to Palm Beach Public Elementary School on the afternoon of Aug. 29, a Palm Beach Police spokesman said.

Officers were called to the school on Seaview Avenue about 1:45 p.m. after a teacher reported a suspicious person on the field south of the Morton and Barbara Mandel Recreation Center, which is just east of Palm Beach Public, police spokesman Capt. Will Rothrock said. The school uses the recreation center’s field for recess and other activities.

After the man jumped the fence to get onto the field, he briefly spoke with a teacher and asked for water, Rothrock said. The man had cut himself “fairly decently” while jumping the fence, and after speaking with the teacher, the man went into the recreation center to get help, Rothrock said…
