PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A routine traffic enforcement operation turned into a criminal arrest Tuesday evening after Port St. Lucie Police officers stopped a driver who ran a red light and made an illegal U-turn near SW Gatlin Boulevard.
The Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) said the driver — identified as Jennifer Smith of Palm Beach Gardens — was pulled over after officers observed multiple traffic violations. Upon making contact, officers suspected Smith was under the influence.
According to the department, Smith appeared disoriented, believed she was in Palm Beach Gardens, and struggled to retrieve her driver’s license from her purse. Officers also noted the smell of alcohol on her breath…
