Tropical wave continues to fight dry air, higher chances to develop midweek

West Palm Beach, FLA. (WPEC) — A tropical wave, a broad area of low pressure moving westward through the tropics, is currently located over the eastern Atlantic. It’s producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms, but the system remains disorganized for now.

Right now, the environment around the wave is dry and stable, which makes it harder for storms to grow and organize. Dry air limits the amount of moisture available for cloud formation, and stable air resists vertical motion, both of which are key ingredients for tropical development. So, in the short term, this system isn’t expected to strengthen.

However, as the wave moves west-northwestward over the next several days, it’s forecast to enter a region with more favorable conditions. That means moisture will increase, and the atmosphere will become more supportive of rising air and storm development. If that trend continues, this system could gradually organize and become a tropical depression by the middle to latter part of next week…
