Palm Beach Zoo Debuts Unique Cohabitation Exhibit for Golden Lion Tamarins and Sloths

Visitors to the Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society can now see golden lion tamarins and Hoffman’s two-toed sloths living together in a habitat that reflects the forests of South America. Introduced over Labor Day weekend, the space offers a canopy for the tamarins and branches for the sloths. CBS12 reported that vines and tunnels have been added to support natural behaviors for both species.

According to CBS12, zoo official Devin Clarke said the habitat was designed for both species and provides enrichment and space to encourage natural activity.

Golden lion tamarins have recovered from fewer than 200 in the wild during the 1970s to more than 5,000 as of last year through cooperative efforts by zoos. Clarke credited a plan developed by 40 Association of Zoos and Aquariums institutions to rerelease the species into the wild, abc News reported…
