West Palm’s long-delayed ‘tent site’ spectacular 23-story glass tower faces new roadblock

Travelers on downtown West Palm Beach’s main thoroughfare have encountered a long-awaited sight this year: construction crews at work at the so-called “tent site,” the long-vacant city-owned lot at the corner of Okeechobee Boulevard and South Dixie Highway.

After three decades of failed efforts and false starts, it appeared the city finally was seeing development on the empty 2.4-acre lot that it had sought for so long.

But now the site’s future is in doubt again, with the developer building a 23-story office building there accused of defaulting on a construction loan and the lender petitioning in court to take control of the project…
