Tropical wave AL98 to bring rain, wind to Windward Islands

West Palm Beach, FLA. (WPEC) — A tropical wave named AL98 is moving quickly toward the Windward Islands, and while it’s not yet a tropical storm, it’s already causing stormy weather.

What Is AL98?

AL98 is a tropical wave, which means it’s a long stretch of unsettled weather moving through the tropics. It’s currently just a few hundred miles east of the Windward Islands and is producing a large and steady area of showers and thunderstorms.

Even though it’s not spinning like a tropical storm (it doesn’t have a “closed circulation,” which means the winds aren’t swirling around a center), it’s still producing strong winds, between 30 and 35 miles per hour, especially to the north and east of the wave.
