Attention West Palm Beach Residents: Seasonal King Tides May Cause Temporary Flooding in November and December

Residents and businesses in West Palm Beach, Florida, are being notified about seasonal King Tides this fall. The highest tides are expected from November 4-8 and December 3-6, 2025. These tides, also called Perigean Spring Tides, can cause temporary flooding in low-lying areas, even without rain. The city notes that if heavy rain occurs during King Tides, flooding may last longer because rainwater cannot drain until the tides go down.

King Tides are the highest predicted tides each year and occur regularly in coastal areas like West Palm Beach, especially near the Intracoastal Waterway. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) does not expect the 2025 King Tides to reach moderate or central flood stages. However, storms or other factors could still cause higher sea levels and local flooding.

West Palm Beach has upgraded its stormwater system to address these risks. More than a dozen neighborhoods have installed tidal flood valves. These valves help stop ocean and Intracoastal water from entering the city’s stormwater pipes while allowing rainwater to drain.
