A tragic incident occurred this past Saturday in Lake Worth Beach, where a 64-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed. The woman has been identified as Karen Petrillo of Lake Worth Beach, as confirmed by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. WFLX reported that the collision happened while Petrillo was crossing the crosswalk at the intersection of Lucerne Avenue and Dixie Highway, although she had begun crossing when the light turned green.
The driver involved in the accident, Charles Cherilus, also 64 and from Lake Worth Beach, stayed at the scene following the incident and will not face charges, as of now. According to the investigation, Cherilus was driving a 2009 Honda Pilot and had been stopped at a red light before the accident occurred, the light turned green for him, and he proceeded through the intersection at the same time Petrillo was walking across the crosswalk, BocaNewsNow.com reports.
Petrillo was critically injured after being hit by the front of the Honda Pilot, which threw her into the air before she landed on the pavement. She was then transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 11:56 a.m. yesterday.
