The Soup Kitchen joins CBS12’s Project Thanksgiving to tackle food insecurity

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — In Palm Beach County, one organization has quietly become a lifeline for thousands. For over 40 years, The Soup Kitchen in west Boynton Beach has served hot meals every single day—now averaging 1,500 meals daily. But with rising demand and dwindling resources, the team is stretched thin.

“We just look out the window every day—the lines are growing so much, especially the last two weeks,” said CEO Marlene Mejia, reflecting on the surge in need during CBS12 News at 3 p.m. on Monday.

COO Dimitry Viarenich added, “We serve roughly 300 extra meals on a daily basis. We’ve never seen numbers this high. People are desperately looking for food, coming from all over Palm Beach County—and we haven’t turned a single person away.”…
