Man, 19, shot by PBSO deputies faces assault charges in machete incident

A 19-year-old man faces charges of aggravated assault on a law-enforcement officer after a Nov. 18 altercation with Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies left him with gunshot wounds, according to court documents.

Investigators reported Andre Mayard approached deputies with a machete raised above his head as they responded to a call at a home near Riviera Beach. One deputy shot Mayard when he did not drop the weapon, striking him in the torso, left leg and right foot, according to his arrest report.

Circuit Judge Scott Suskauer declined on Dec. 16 to set bail for Mayard, who received care at a hospital for critical injuries after the shooting and who arrived at the county jail on Dec. 13. The Public Defender’s Office is representing Mayard, according to court records. As a policy, it does not comment on open cases…
