SPARS Transform Palm Beach Biltmore Into Military Academy

In 1942, as war raged on, FDR signed a law that changed women’s roles forever.

The Coast Guard Women’s Reserve, known as SPARS, took over Palm Beach’s swanky Biltmore Hotel in May 1943. Workers knocked down walls, built new rooms, and turned ballrooms into chapels.
