Woman allegedly posed as caregiver to steal thousands from elderly South Florida residents

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A Deerfield Beach woman is accused of infiltrating senior living communities by pretending to be a caregiver, then stealing thousands of dollars from vulnerable elderly victims, according to investigators.

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office say the suspect, 26-year-old Jamisha Shamari Sylvain, gained access to apartments under the guise of providing care, then took debit cards and personal banking information to drain accounts.

BSO began investigating in October after receiving a report that an elderly man had been exploited by an unknown woman. According to detectives, Sylvain posed as a caregiver at the B’nai B’rith apartments, convincing the victim to let her inside his home.
