Driver accelerates on yellow light before deadly West Palm Beach hit-and-run: PBSO report

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A pedestrian was killed late Friday after being struck by a car in West Palm Beach, and the driver later left the scene before being located at a nearby residence.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said on Monday that the crash happened around 10:25 p.m. Jan. 24 at the intersection of Jog Road and Okeechobee Boulevard, investigators said. Deputies identified the driver as a 30-year-old woman who was behind the wheel of a 2022 Nissan Altima at the time of the collision, the sheriff’s office report states.

According to the crash report, the pedestrian — identified as 26-year-old Gage Chidester, a homeless man — was trying to cross Jog Road westbound within the marked crosswalk.
