Man arrested with machete on elementary school grounds, while children present: School PD

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A man was arrested Friday after school police say he was found with a machete in a backpack on the campus of Galaxy Elementary School in Boynton Beach.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Palm Beach School District Police, an officer conducting a routine perimeter check shortly after noon in Jan. 23, spotted an unknown man standing in a parking lot on the school grounds while classes were in session.

The officer approached the man, later identified in the report as Elija Evans Lewis Jean, and told him he was trespassing on school property, the affidavit states. The man told the officer he had walked from a nearby community park and was attempting to cut through the campus to reach a main roadway by jumping a fence, and that he stopped on campus to reflect on events in his life, the report says…
