PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — The driver of a Waste Management truck that fatally struck an 81-year-old woman in the PGA National community was issued a citation for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
The Palm Beach Gardens Police Department said the deadly crash happened on Jan. 27, when the pedestrian — later identified as Susan Schaufeld — was found in critical condition after being hit by a dump truck along Ryder Cup Boulevard.
Police say officers arrived at the intersection of Ryder Cup Boulevard and Glencairn Road just after 8:25 a.m. that same morning and found Schaufeld on the ground with severe injuries. Officers immediately began lifesaving measures until Fire Rescue crews arrived and took her to the hospital. Palm Beach Gardens Fire Rescue said she had been transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center in critical condition.
Investigators were notified on Jan. 29 that Schaufeld had died from her injuries while still hospitalized. Officials said her family has been notified…
