Palm Beach gives initial OK for homes to be built closer to street

Palm Beach will soon add guardrails to a local law that allows North End houses to be built closer to the street.

On Feb. 11, Town Council members unanimously gave an initial thumbs-up to adding another level of vetting when a North End property owner wants to move a house 5 feet closer to the street than the zoning code allows. Town law allows such a move, as long as the backyard is increased by the same amount.

The approval came with an order to modify the proposed rule to allow both stories of a two-story building to be pushed forward…
