A landmarked estate belonging to a member of a family that owns a chain of grocery stores in the Northeast can add a second guesthouse, after the majority of Palm Beach’s town council agreed with the property owners that more than 2 acres of land is room enough for three structures on the property.
At their most recent development review meeting, council members voted 3-2 — with members Ted Cooney and Julie Araskog dissenting — to approve a variance to allow an additional two-story guesthouse on the property at 801 S. County Road. The town’s code only allows one guesthouse per property, regardless of how much land is available.
The 2.5-acre estate is owned by Michael and Frances Kettenbach. She is part of the Demoulas family, which founded and owns Market Basket supermarkets in New England…
