The only thing better than one new Kips Bay Decorator Show House debut is two. And for the first time in Show House history, the Palm Beach edition’s ninth annual showcase will feature not one, but two personality-packed properties – each reimagined by a stable of designers that don’t follow the design trends, they set them; unafraid of feathers, pattern play, or abandoning minimalist design rules altogether.
Show House attendees will begin at the waterfront Intracoastal House at 3410 North Flagler Drive before crossing the street to The Palm Cottage – a deliberate foil to the anchor property’s sprawling 4,500-square-foot footprint. Where the former is all breezy spectacle and cocktail-hour scale, the latter delivers a more intimate three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath hideaway made for unhurried, sun-drenched afternoons.
Taking on the ambitious double design feature is a roster of 23 creative minds, including Kate Ives, who spun stark walls into the ultimate ladies’ escape, and River Brook, who dreamed up a tiki tent inspired by a Slim Aarons poolside photograph – a fitting muse for the brand of indoor-outdoor ostentation Palm Beach does best.
And yet, for all the enveloping mural wallpapers, floral-and-tassel canopies, cabana stripes, and exuberant riffs on the Palm Beach sensibility, the Kips Bay Decorator Show House remains – at its core – a philanthropic endeavor.
Since its inception more than five decades ago, the Palm Beach iteration and its sister showcases have raised over $34 million in support of the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club’s mission to provide essential educational and developmental programs for young people in New York City. Every ticket, starting at $50, contributes directly to that impact.
