The West Palm Beach Police Department is honoring the memory of Officer Festus Alvah “Al” Tatum, who died in the line of duty on March 28, 1959. Officer Tatum, age 35, was escorting a funeral procession when his motorcycle collided with a motor scooter driven by a 15-year-old boy. The crash occurred at an intersection, and Officer Tatum was pronounced dead at Good Samaritan Hospital from head injuries. He had served four years with the department.
