50,000-square-foot Publix finally to open in Avenir after tornado wrecked first build

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (CBS12) — Palm Beach Gardens shoppers can finally put this item back on their grocery list: a neighborhood Publix in Avenir.

After a long wait and a few weather-related setbacks, a new Publix supermarket is set to open at Avenir Town Center at 7 a.m. Thursday, May 21, according to the company’s coming-soon page. The store will give residents of the fast-growing western community a much closer place to shop for everyday essentials.

The Publix, located at 12535 Northlake Blvd., is just under 50,000 square feet and features the chain’s newer, more spacious design. Shoppers can expect wider aisles, self-checkout lanes, and expanded bakery, deli, meat, and seafood departments. The store will also offer online ordering, curbside pickup, and delivery, along with a drive-thru pharmacy and an adjacent Publix Liquors store.

For many Avenir residents, the opening has been a long time coming. The original Publix building at the site was nearly finished when an EF-3 tornado spawned by Hurricane Milton heavily damaged the structure in October 2024. What remained had to be demolished, delaying the project by more than a year.

Now rebuilt and nearly ready to open, the Publix will serve as the main anchor for Avenir Town Center, a new shopping and dining destination designed to function as a walkable hub for the community. Additional restaurants, shops, and service businesses are expected to open nearby later this summer…
