‘Murph Challenge’: Kansans join nationwide participation in annual workout honoring Medal of Honor recipient

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – In gyms and workout groups across the U.S. many took time on and leading up to Memorial Day to test their physical limits and honor a man who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country.

The “Murph Challenge’ honors Lt. Michael Murphy, a Navy SEAL who died in June of 2005, fighting to save fellow service members in Afghanistan. The fitness challenge now bearing his name consists of a mile run, 100 pullups, 200 pushups, 300 air squats and another mile run.

On Monday, groups gathered throughout the Wichita area to complete the challenge that is also an official fundraiser for the Lt. Michael P. Muprhy Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Gathering spots for the workout included an outdoor setup in Park City and at Wichita’s northwest YMCA…
