Wichita to celebrate historic McAfee pool with free swim day Saturday

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) — A celebration will be held for a historic pool in northeast Wichita.

Built in 1969, McAfee pool was the first in Kansas designed specifically for African American children to practice lap swimming. It was placed on the national register of historic places last fall.

The pool had some mechanical issues and could not open when other pools in the city did on Memorial Day weekend…
