We are in store for an active and hotter start to the new week. This morning we are getting clipped by some showers and storms to the east, but most of us are starting the day dry. Watch out for a shower or storm to the northwest through midday. Looking ahead to later this afternoon and through the evening is when we will have a chance for strong to severe storms. All forms of severe weather will be possible.
In addition to storms today, we will also have to put extra effort into staying cool and hydrated. A Heat Advisory goes into effect today for portions of Central Kansas and continues through Tuesday. High temperatures today will mainly be in the 90s but some triple digit highs to the south will be possible. More triple digit high temperatures are likely by Tuesday. Please be sure to take frequent breaks if you must be outdoors for an extended period of time.
With the heat continuing Tuesday, so will storm chances. After storms move out Monday night there could be some trailing showers early Tuesday. Storms start to get their act together again to the west later in the afternoon. There is also a Fire Weather Watch for a few of our counties to the west too. As storms track west to east late Tuesday they will be capable of damaging winds and hail. By midnight, storms will start to weaken and fizzle out through the overnight.
Despite Wednesday starting mainly dry, we will do it all over again late in the day. The strongest storms later in the afternoon and during the evening midweek will target areas to the east and northeast. Wednesday will also be one of the hottest days of the week.
These stormy waves continue through the rest of the week. We will take some of the edge off of the heat after midweek but it will still be hot and muggy. A dip in temperatures will be more noticeable by the end of the weekend.
