62-year-old man charged in shooting near downtown Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A man arrested after a shooting last week near downtown Wichita appeared in court Monday.

Carl Weems, 62, is charged with:

  • Two counts of aggravated battery
  • Criminal discharge of firearm
  • Criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Weems was arrested after a shooting that happened around 10:30 p.m. June 3 at 11th Street and North Broadway Avenue.

Police said a 49-year-old man and 36-year-old man were shot after a fight outside of a convenience store. Weems was arrested in his vehicle at 13th and West streets.

He is still in jail on a $500,000 bond. His next court date is scheduled for June 22 at 1:30 p.m…
