‘Bobby Bones Show’ helps Kansas barbecue team go to national competitions

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Campus High School teacher Brooke Ward got the school’s barbecue competition team off the ground a couple of years ago.

It’s had a ton of success in that time, bringing home multiple state titles. But it’s always in need of funding, and that’s where Ward got the idea to reach out to “The Bobby Bones Show,” a nationally syndicated radio show.

She sent Bobby Bones an Instagram message about what her students do, and within 30 minutes, she got a reply.

“Really it was, ‘There is such a thing as a barbecue team?! That sounds awesome,’ Bones said. “And it is also teaching kids something they’ll probably use for the rest of their lives. And so I hit her back and said, ‘I’m in.’”…
