Storm Track 3 Forecast: Stormy stretch through the end of the week

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 12 AM Wednesday for a large portion of Kansas. Primary threats include scattered damaging winds with isolated significant gusts to 75 mph, and scattered large hail up to 2 inches in diameter.

These storms will continue into the overnight, tracking east before falling apart. Initiation was over Southwest Kansas and the Oklahoma Panhandle. There is an Enhanced Risk for this area and a Slight Risk from all of western Kansas into the north central part of the state.  Damaging winds and large hail are primary.  A tornado cannot be ruled out.  Flood alerts are still in effect to the north.  Streams, creeks, and rivers are running high along with any low-lying locations.  There is also a Heat Advisory in effect for heat indices feeling as miserable as 106 degrees into this evening.

More storms will fire on Wednesday.  These will be focused closer to Wichita and extend into the northeast part of the state.  Large hail and damaging winds need to the monitored.  The tornado threat is higher to the northeast.

On Thursday, the threat shifts north into Nebraska and east of the Kansas Turnpike for another round of strong to severe storms.  For Friday, the chance for storms aligns better along and south of the Oklahoma state line.  Temperatures will also come down after mid-week.

Storm chances will ramp up again and become widespread on Saturday.  Some may become severe for damaging winds and large hail.  This could also create more localized flooding issues from central into eastern Kansas into Saturday night.

Sunday into early next week looks a little quieter in relation to storm chances.  Temperatures will also start just below average next week before gradually warming up.  The humidity looks to increase especially farther east next Thursday.
