WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Sedgwick County Zoo announced Monday that it had to say goodbye to its male eagle, El Dorado.
The zoo said he died last week. He was estimated to be 36 years old.
El Dorado was part of the U.S. Bald Eagle Recovery Program, which is a conservation effort that saved wild eagle chicks during a time when bald eagles were threatened by pesticides.
According to the zoo, he lived at the San Francisco Zoo with his mate, Mariposa, for 26 years before they were both transferred to Sedgwick County in 2016.
