Valley Center to hold town hall on future of city fire protection

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. (KWCH) — Valley Center will hold a town hall meeting July 29 at 7 p.m. to discuss the future of fire protection in the city.

Residents will have an opportunity to weigh in on two options the city is considering: strengthening its own fire department or transitioning fire services to Sedgwick County Fire District 1.

The meeting follows Sedgwick County’s decision to end its mutual aid agreement with five cities, including Valley Center. That decision was centered on safety concerns and taxing inequity. A 90-day notice was sent to those cities, and that period expires next month…
