WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -— A 55-year-old Wichita man has been ordered to spend more than seven years in prison for a series of financial crimes investigated by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
On Friday, a Sedgwick County judge sentenced Chad E. Smith to 85 months in prison. The sentence follows his conviction for multiple thefts occurring between 2023 and 2024.
The DA’s office said Smith took money promising to complete several construction and home remodeling projects without completing or even beginning work. Smith also pled guilty to falsely representing that he was a licensed general contractor in order to obtain business from multiple victims.
