Prepare for loud booms again in southeast Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Residents of southeast Wichita could hear loud booms again Thursday.

McConnell Air Force Base said that its Explosive Ordnance Disposal team is conducting controlled detonations again.

The 22nd Civil Engineering Squadron’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is responsible for detecting, disarming and safely disposing of explosive hazards. That duty often involves destroying unexploded military munitions found off-base in the region, such as grenades or, in the case of an incident in May, unexploded mortars from previous wars.
