WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — An elementary school in Derby is temporarily closed after a fire broke out on Sunday morning.
According to the Derby Fire Department, firefighters responded to a fire alarm activation at Derby Hills Elementary shortly before 6 a.m.
Crews found heavy smoke in the cafeteria and located a fire involving a grease/water separator in the kitchen. The department said the fire was extinguished quickly.

The fire department said there is $50,000 in damage to the kitchen and cafeteria. No one was in the building at the time of the incident.
