For nearly 50 years, the Jim James Memorial 101 Club in Valley Center has been the only place in Kansas where recovering alcoholics could enjoy a broad range of recreational and social activities without the pressure to take a drink.
The membership club doesn’t serve alcoholic beverages.
But rising costs associated with running such a club led the Wichita Fellowship Club’s board of directors, which owns the 101 Club and a 40-bed sober-living house in north Wichita, to vote last week to sell the property.
