Proposed gas station moves closer to approval in south Wichita suburb

A proposed gas station that has been received pushback from neighbors in Haysville has been recommended for a conditional use permit by the planning commission.

The gas station would be on an 11-acre lot at the northwest corner of 79th and Broadway. The surrounding land is mixed-use, though the majority is residential, the staff report said.

The applicant had sought a zoning change but that was rejected by the City Council after the planning commission recommended its denial. The applicant also sought a conditional use permit, which would allow for the gas station’s operation without changing the zoning. That had been tabled by the planning commission while they awaited a site plan, then was reviewed again on Aug. 27…
