Crown Uptown’s future remains in limbo after council rejects contentious appeal

After a bizarre and contentious hearing, the Wichita City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to reject an appeal by Crown Uptown Theatre owner Mike Brown, who is seeking a demolition permit for the 98-year-old building at 3207 E. Douglas.

Brown is currently barred from razing the Crown until at least Jan. 23, 2027, after the City Council voted last month to block his application for a demolition permit for 180 days.
