WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Sedgwick County planners and community members met Thursday to discuss proposed regulations for commercial data centers as local leaders work to establish permanent zoning rules before a temporary development pause expires.
Sedgwick County paused data center development earlier this year to allow officials time to evaluate the industry’s footprint and draft standards that protect local resources. On Thursday, planners presented the first public draft of the regulatory framework.
“We are taking the appropriate time to establish draft regulations that work for all of Sedgwick County and work for the City of Wichita,” said Justin Constantino, prinicpal planner for the Metropolitan Area Planning Department.
