The weekend closes comfortably with a slim chance of a pop-up shower over the Flint Hills through evening. Temperatures are pleasant and perfect for the patio.
Fog may develop over Northwest and portions of West-Central Kansas later tonight. Some of the visibility to the northwest may become low for the Monday morning drive around town.
Lows overnight look to fall into the 60s for most of our viewing area.
Clouds will mix with sunshine on Monday with afternoon highs from the 70s to the 80s.
A widespread and soaking rain event is coming for Kansas this week. It will become the perfect, slow-moving setup that combines a storm system in the upper levels of the atmosphere from the southwest part of the country with the remnants of Hurricane Polo out of the Pacific Ocean.
Flooding is a future concern for us, especially by Wednesday and Thursday. Rainfall potential for most by the end of the workweek will be 2″ to 4″. Locally higher rainfall amounts to 6″ or higher also look probable.
The first sign of transitioning to this wet pattern happens Monday evening. Scattered showers arrive to the northwest. Rain will then spread throughout our western counties on Tuesday and gradually shift into Central Kansas by Tuesday evening.
Rain will keep coming in waves and will become heavy at times Wednesday into Thursday. Thunder and lightning will be embedded within the rain. If we can get enough instability in here, there may be a brief chance for a stronger storm or two over southern Kansas on Wednesday.
How quickly this rain exits by the end of the workweek will largely be determined by how soon a strong cold front comes in from the north. This will steer the rain away and allow temps to cool.
Some overnight temps later this week, after the rain leaves, will dip to the 40s. Should be beautiful for Woofstock at Sedgwick County Park next Saturday with morning temps in the upper 50s and afternoon highs in the 70s.
Overall, next weekend looks like a gorgeous and dry one!
